Verse -.2. "Its branches are growing and ever
spreading downwards and upwards. Its qualities
and subjects are increasing every day. The higher
roots attract some seekers, but the future of
all human beings is decided by past and present
actions (Karmas). All human beings always get
bound to their Karmas, done in the
present".
Comments.
A perfect law of Karma (made by God) is indicated
in this verse. "Whatever I am today is the result
of my past Karmas. What ever I will be tomorrow
or after a few years, will also be according to
my own past Karmas plus newer Karmas getting added
daily". In other words, "I am the maker of my
own present destiny and future". This is true
for every living human being.
This perfect rule
of "ever growing bondage of Karma" (Karmanu-bandhan)
apply to all human beings on the earth. (Karmanu
bandhini manushy loke).
Verse - 3. "There is no
definite shape (form) of this tree. It is beginigless
and endless, but this (Pipal) tree has very firm
and sound roots. A seeker of self has to cut all
worldly family attachments of the deep rooted
tree with a firm sword of detachment".
Comments.
Pipal trees grow in many parts of India. They
do not bear any fruits. The seeds are invisible
dust like fine pollens. They are carried far away
to different places by wind. If they fall on land
or get support of a brick wall, and get some moisture,
then a small Pipal tree soon starts growing. Big
Pipal trees give out from long growing branches
extra roots, to support the weight of a branch.
These root touch the ground in course of time
and become thick trunks. The original trunk gets
hidden and lost, when such adventitious roots
are constantly added to the original Pipal tree.
This symbolism of Pipal tree nicely applies to
long history of Hindu religion and also to any
branch of knowledge. Pipal trees are worshipped
as a holy trees in India.
Verse 4. "Then one starts
the journey towards the path of super consciousness,
from where there is no downfall or going back.
Know very well, that you alone were the primary
ancient person (Adi-Purusha). From all your activities
(Karma) you were and are growing and increasing
like an ever growing tree".
This verse reaffirms
the law of Karma stated in earlier verses. Each
individual (self) is doing some activity (Karmas).
This adds more material bondages daily to his/her
life. He was single, then marries, then children
are added, he buys a house, then a holiday resort,
buys new cars, clothes and many material things
like TVs, VCRs, new furniture and so on.
All these
comforts come according to the Laws of Karmas.
But he is not able to see (understand) how the
perfect Laws of Karma (made by invisible God)
have worked in his present life. The invisible
God becomes visible to the eye of Mind by the
study and practice of 8-step ladder of Raj Yoga.
How to climb this spiritual ladder and reach Nirvana
is beautifully shown in the next important verse.
All Yoga students must memorize this particular
verse.
Verse 5. A ladder of Yoga steps for Union
with God.
nirman moha jitasang dosha
adiatma nitya
vinivrutta kamaha;
dwandvaihi vimukta sukhdukha
sangnaihi gachhanti amudha padam avyam tat."
Comments. Only
those, who are liberated from all illusions and
doubts (Nirman-moha); are practicing self search
and meditation daily (adiatma nitya); have conquered
mind from getting attached to sensual pleasures,
have conquered all passions, desires and wants,
(vinivrutta kama); are liberated from dualities
of happiness and unhappiness (dwandvaihivimukta
sukhdukha sangnaihi); reach the highest blissful
state of spiritual consciousness (Nirvana). This
is the final goal of life, called Moksha or Nirvana.
Now Lord describes His divine residence.
From Verse 6 the Anushtup Chand restarts.
