Lord shows us his Perfect Universe.
All physical bodies of living creatures arise from and nourished by food. All physical bodies of animals are nourished by food. Food grows by rain. Rain comes due to sacrifices of the clouds. Thus a perfect cycle of sacrifices is going on since ages”. (V-14)
This is the perfect design of God. Even non-living objects like the Sun, Rain, Land, clouds, Air, etc., are doing their assigned actions with Yagna-Bhav. The sun (deity God of Hindus) is giving light and heat to all. The heat of the sun creates clouds and rain (another Hindu deity God- Indra). Food (deity God- Anna-Dev) grows with rainwater. These verses indicate that even non-living natural objects are doing their God assigned sacrificial jobs in a non-stop manner.
So a human being also cannot remain idle if he/she wants to become happy, survive and succeed. In verses Nos. 14, 15 & 16, Lord points to Arjuna a cycle of non-stop sacrificial actions going on in Mother Nature and the universe. All living human beings must also do their assigned Karmas to preserve life and propagate their races.
“Karmas depend on spirit and the imperishable (Akshara) Spirit is preserved by Karma. God is evident at all places daily in sacrificial actions done by all living beings.” (V-15)
“A wheel of life cycle of birth and death is going on since ages. Those who do not understand this message, and live for sensual pleasures are living a purposeless and useless life”. (V-16)
“Those, who are self-contented, self centered, and satisfied with little possessions, do not know that good deeds could be done”. (V-17).
Many Indian Gurus translate this particular verse and preach satisfaction and contentment in life. They preach, ‘there is no need of accumulating material wealth’. This is wrong preaching as one observes in the very next verse.
“Even if they (above referred self-satisfied individuals) do actions, or not do actions - it makes no difference. Because they have nothing to give to people and nothing to receive from others. (V-18)
“Therefore Oh, Arjuna, always remain active but unattached, and do nonstop actions. In this way only, you will excel in life and achieve higher goals”. (V-19)
“Only by correct Karmas- Kings like Janaka (father of Sita and father-in-law of Lord Rama) and many others achieved great successes. You have got to do Karmas, if not for yourself then for the welfare of all people. By your auspicious Karmas only, you will be remembered for a long time. (V-20).
Janak - in general sense means any father. Every father must do Karmas to earn money for family needs. A family needs so many things like a home, food, water, clothes etc.; Janak symbolizes any noble king or the head of a state. A good king creates heaven in his land by making good laws and fair justice for all. Such a king’s name gets written in golden letters in the history.
The next verse is very inspiring for people who are rich and famous, and in higher political positions in any country.
“People mimic the life styles of rich and famous. Young and average people mimic the actions and behaviors of people in high positions. They think that these are right actions and the correct way of life, and ideal standard of life". (V-21).
Children pickup the good or bad habits and behaviors of parents, leaders and nearby people.
The recent historic example of America’s president Mr. Bill Clinton - and Monika, provides a message of wrong and immoral behavior. A wrong example has been set for the young growing children. It was a wrong Karma. The man made laws proved short and imperfect for a sinning person in the highest position. The proceedings in House of Congress and Senate went on for six months.
But the bondage of doing every day’s wrong actions done at a particulate place and time, was taking place for both these people according to Karmas done by them. It had created a sense of shame and mental pain for both. Their Karma bondage will remain attached to them only, for entire remaining years of life. This incident will also remain recorded forever in black letters in the history of America and the world.
God also remains active when He assumes a human form.
Lord says: “I am King of Kings and maker of this perfect universe. I have nothing to gain or to loose. But when I assume a human form, I do non-stop Karmas, without blinking my eyes”. (V-22).
In Vaishnava temples there is a tradition of rest hours for God (Shayan). In above verse, God clearly declares that HE never sleeps or blinks eyes even for a second. The temple tradition of making God sleep is wrong according to this verse.
“If I don’t do constant Karmas and sleep, people will follow my example and neglect their duties and become inactive and idle”. (V-23).
“The order and harmony in nature and that land will come to an end. An Era of disorder and chaos will be established and I may become Shankara - the destroyer and killer of all people”. (V-24).
Lord Krishna is incarnate Vishnu-God, who maintains life. He is preserver of life and not destroyer of life.
